Phone Calls

I called a local voter yesterday…actually, I’ve called quite a few over the last few weeks.  I’ve left many messages, but was also able to connect with many and have meaningful conversations - one local in Winter Park said that he has never had a candidate running for any position personally call him on the phone and that act alone earned me his vote.  What a testament to the power of personal connection!

This is my favorite part about this process - to be able to connect with people; to hear their perspective, understand their concerns and impress upon them the importance of school boards to the overall health of our community.

In these phone calls, I talk about my experience in our local schools and community and my hopes for our school district. And, often times they ask me pointed questions of which I’m happy to expound.

I thought cold calling voters in the age of texting (I admittedly don’t answer the phone if I don’t recognize the number!) would be the hardest part for me, but it has actually turned out to be one of the easiest.   Maybe I’ll answer that unknown caller next time 😉
